Why mobile RPGs bury their best settings

Why mobile RPGs bury their best settings

April 24, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

I love mobile RPGs, but I have a bone to pick with how they handle options. The features that make them playable on a phone are almost always hidden where you'd never look.

Take auto-battle. It's the single most useful toggle for grinding on a small screen, and yet games like Emberfall Saga tuck it behind two submenus. Newcomers spend hours tapping manually before they even find it.

The same goes for damage number toggles, animation-skip options, and one-handed layout modes. These aren't niche settings — they're the difference between a game feeling respectful of your time or hostile to it.

My tip: the first thing you should do in any new RPG is open every settings tab and read all of it. Five minutes there will save you hours later.

Developers, if you're reading: put the quality-of-life toggles on the first screen. Please.
