Which mobile genres actually spare your battery

Which mobile genres actually spare your battery

August 25, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Not all games drain your phone equally, and the difference is bigger than most people think. We ran a rough test across genres to see where the power actually goes.

The clear winners are casual and text-heavy adventure games. Anything that keeps the screen mostly static and skips heavy 3D lighting barely moves the battery. Puzzle games sit comfortably here too.

At the other end are racing and open-world strategy titles. Real-time simulation and fancy lighting effects are the real culprits — they keep the GPU busy every single frame. Expect a warm phone and a noticeable drop after forty minutes.

The good news is settings help a lot. Capping the frame rate at 30 and knocking visual quality down one notch often cuts drain dramatically with only a small hit to how the game looks.

If you're gaming away from a charger, lean casual. If you must race, lower the graphics and keep a cable handy. Simple as that.
